10 Rules To Attain Work Life Balance

An individual’s life is a combination of four dimensions– Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Spiritual.  When you bring a balance in these four dimensions your life gets balanced - you feel as if you’re complete and there is no void anymore. But today, things are different. To attain success people spend maximum hours at their workspace. The only motive many of us have in life is to attain targets and achieve deadlines. For this, we start working a bit earlier, a bit harder and we tend to stay a bit late.  However, eventually we all experience an incompleteness, or some huge empty space within.

To overcome this incompleteness we all need to live a balanced life, where we are physically fit, intellectually strong, emotionally balanced and spiritually enlightened. But the question is -  How to attain this balance in our life?

Rule No. 1 – Set Goals And Prioritize.

Without clear goals, you experience confusions and frustrations which ultimately makes your life stressful that eventually decreases your productivity. Having clear goals makes life a cakewalk. When you have clear goals, planning becomes easy and you tend to know – where you are progressing and how to get there.

To set goals,  you need to jot down what you are planning to achieve. Your goals must not be abstract. Make sure your goals are specific, attainable, measurable, realistic and timely. For example –if  you aim to be physically healthy and fit, then you need to make a  plan or set a goal. In this case, make sure you  hit the gym thrice  a week at 7 pm for an hour.

Thinking about your goals in this fashion makes them more achievable.

Rule No. 2 – Have A Plan To Lead A Flexible Life.

Have a planned structure in place. It brings stability, which in return allows  you to lead a flexible life. Blending work with personal life becomes easy this way.

For instance, if you plan and execute successfully, then you can be on a vacation and at the same time you can work. You can sail on a cruise and simultaneously manage your team with the help of technology like emails, skype calls, whatsapp, etc.

Rule No. 3 – Manage Time. Manage Life.

Doing the right thing in the right way at the right time– is a mantra towards a balanced life. In order to do this, you need to focus on your priorities and stress only on those things that accelerate your important goals – Goals with high results. Good time management means spending time on goals that possess high potential and results.

Rule No. 4 – Acquire Knowledge And Skills That Will Speed Up Your Working Style.

Sign up for training programs that enhance your operational abilities. Acquiring additional knowledge and skills allows you to work smartly. You can take up courses like – Work-Life Management, Goal Setting, Maximizing Productivity, Improving Negotiation Skills, Stress Management etc.

Rule No. 5 – Stay Fit. Eat Healthy.

To work well it is important to eat well and stay fit. Physical exercise also keeps your mind fresh which in return increases your productivity. This also includes regular medical checkups and proper medication whenever required.

Rule No. 6 – Meditate To Have A Peaceful Mind.

Bring Zen (emphasizing the value of meditation and intuition rather than ritual worship or study of scripture) into your life with meditation. It enhances creativity and accelerates innovative thinking.  You start seeing things through various angles and viewpoints. Managing stress and deadlines becomes easier, as it helps clear your thoughts.

Rule No. 7 – Disconnect to reconnect.

Everyone needs a break from operational work. During this break disconnecting yourself from work is necessary. It helps you to reconnect, once you’re back to work. It refreshes your perspective and gives you a time to recollect strength for the tasks ahead.

Rule No. 8 – Be Positive And Passionate.

Have a company of positive people around you. Let the negativity not affect you – both at home and at work. Look at the opportunities by avoiding obstacles. If you still can’t see the positive side in any situation; then look harder, look beyond and look differently – you will definitely find a positive aspect because everything has a positive spin.

Rule No. 9 – Reward Yourself.

Rewarding yourself is necessary because when you put some extra efforts you need some perks. So if you have achieved your set goals, then reward yourself. This rewarding system helps you achieve more and work/life becomes more enjoyable. Take small rewards for small accomplishments or take big rewards on bigger achievements. You deserve it.

Rule No. 10 – Love Your Life.

Enjoy your professional and personal life to the fullest. Enjoy with your coworkers and your family. Enjoy - work, household chores, environment, opportunity. Enjoy the journey of life and career wholeheartedly in every possible way.

Live the moment.
