PMI's criteria for PMP® Certification evaluate candidates' practical experience across various Project Management roles. This certification is exclusively for those possessing a deep understanding of project leadership and responsibilities, necessitating formal PMP® training to qualify as proficient project management professionals.
To be eligible for the Project Management Professional (PMP)® Examination, Project Managers must exhibit a certain level of expertise in Project Management.
Option 1:
• Secondary degree (e.g., high school diploma, associate degree, or equivalent)
• Minimum of five years (or 60 months) of distinct, non-overlapping professional project management experience, inclusive of at least 7,500 hours leading and directing projects, along with 35 hours of formal education.
OR
Option 2:
• Four-year degree (e.g., bachelor's degree or equivalent)
• Minimum of three years (or 36 months) of distinct, non-overlapping professional project management experience, inclusive of at least 4,500 hours leading and directing projects, coupled with 35 hours of formal education.
The PMP certification exam consists of 200 multiple choice questions (out of which 25 are pretest questions) that need to be answered within 4 hours.

What are pretest questions in the PMP® examination?
PMP® examination contains a total of 180 questions out of which 5 questions are pre-test questions. Pre-test questions do not carry any weightage (marks). Having pretest questions is a practice implemented by PMI® to gather statistical information on the validity of the questions and those are deliberated as experimental questions. You never come to know which question is pretest question during the examination or even at the end of the examination. Hence you must treat every question as a weighted (gradable) question.
Is PMP® exam going to change 2023 ?
Most importantly, the PMP® Exam WILL NOT CHANGE in 2023 due to the release of PMBOK® Guide–Seventh Edition, according to PMI. The PMP® exam will continue to be based on the current Exam Content Outline (ECO).
