COURSE OVERVIEW

The Process Control & Instrumentation course covers the fundamental principles of control systems for various process industries as well. These systems require the precise control of temperature, pressure, flow and level as industries cannot be maintained without adequate knowledge about industrial operation regulation. With extensive modules around the basic concepts of process control such as PID controllers, feedback n feedforward loops, process variables control actions like On/Off, Proportional (P), Integral (I), Derivative (D), and their combinations.

You will learn about the various control loop components: sensors, transmitters, actuators and valves along with advanced strategies like cascade,ratio & split range. Employing 3D animations and real-time examples, the course ensures that you understand the perplexed functionalities of control devices such as thermocouples, pressure transmitters, flowmeters etc.

Real-world examples and case studies will demonstrate how these principles are applied to industries such as oil & gas, chemical processing, power generation. The skills will become enabling competences for optimizing control systems, increasing efficiency of operations and minimizing downtime or enhancing safety in all aspects related to the fields of process management.

Upon successful completion of the Process Control & Instrumentation Programme, participants will be able to:

  • Learn about key terms and parameters in process control, including Process Variable (PV), Setpoint (SP), Operating Point (OP), Error, Offset, and Load Disturbance.

  • Describe the basic functions and operations of control loop components, such as Transducers, Converters, Transmitters, Indicators, Recorders, and Controllers.
  • Interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and accurately identify, label, and interpret symbols for instruments, locations, and signal types.

  • Understand the goals and procedures for controller tuning.
  • Explain the mechanisms, benefits, and limitations of Proportional, Integral, and Derivative control actions.
  • Apply P, PI, and PID controls in loops for pressure, flow, level, and temperature.
  • Distinguish between feedback and feedforward control loops.
  • Diagram process control loops using ISA symbology.
  • Describe the basic implementation processes for Cascade, Split Range, Batch, Ratio, and Selective controls.
  • Explore temperature, pressure, flow, and level measurement techniques through detailed 3D animations and practical demonstrations.
